New Development Proposed at 30th and Centennial

We recently received an announcement from the city for a new development project at property located southwest of 30th Street & Centennial Blvd. The owner of this project sent us the attached pictures.
Although there wasn't a sign on the property as of yesterday, a public neighborhood meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 1 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Fire Station #18. The facility will be a 55,600 square foot indoor sports and recreation facility which will be used by players of various turf sports including soccer, baseball, lacrosse, football and field hockey.
If you are interested in providing any comments about this proposal, we suggest you attend the meeting. If you cannot please send your comments.
Thank you.
Streetlight Reactivation By March 1st

The street light reactivation program hit its two week mark with 1488 residential lights turned back on as of Wednesday, January 19th, this leaves approximately 3100 left to reactivate. We anticipate completion of the program no later than March 1st, with most lights turned back on by the middle of February (weather permitting). City staff also received 70 requests from residents to leave lights off. Maps and petition forms were mailed out on Friday, January 14th to the requesters who still have until February 15th to return the forms with neighbors’ signatures signifying their agreement.
Thank You For Helping Take Care of Our Park

Dear Pinon Valley Residents:
This is a well-deserved thank you to all the Pinon Valley residents who stepped up to the plate this last year to help take care of Pinon Valley Park when the City had to reduce their services. Whether you made a donation to the park fund, helped pick up trash, or participated in our August clean-up day, you made a difference in what we were able to accomplish in the park this past year.
As you can see by the letter from the City, also available on the website, the Parks department is discontinuing the Adopt-A-Trashcan program for 2011. The Parks department resumed trash pick-up as of January 3, 2011. In addition to trash service, we will see more mowing in the park and more upkeep.
Although we won’t have to do trash pick-up, Pinon Valley Neighborhood Association will continue its adoption of the Pinon Valley Park as we have for many years. We plan to schedule a spring and fall clean-up day this year and information will be posted in the park as those are scheduled.
It is important that you as a resident of Pinon Valley continue to assist us in ensuring our park remains a safe and clean place for our children and families. No matter how you and your family use the park, it is important for all of us to remember that the park is an important asset to our community and we cannot rely on the City alone to maintain it.
So, please help us in the following ways:
- Please use trash receptacles throughout the park. If you see trash, please pick-up and throw in containers.
- Check and pick up any dog waste from grass surfaces or sidewalks. Do you have extra grocery bags? They can be used to restock dog stations.
- If you notice graffiti, please report to Parks and Recreation or one of the PVNA representatives listed on this website.
Snow Response

In the past the Streets Division distributed a Snow Response Notification only to the media and internal personnel. Starting with the January 10th winter storm anyone watching TV was notified.
At approximately 3:00 A.M. the City sent to all TV stations a "NEWS FLASH."
The TV stations were notified that "City snow crews are on partial callout status, working on primary routes only." This information was then "scrolled" across the bottom of the TV screen like a banner. This information allowed our citizens to make an informed choice on whether to delay their departure or allow more time to get to work. Once all primary routes were passable, the banner was changed to let the public know that Streets Division Crews has move to secondary routes.
Streets has also revised its maps for snow response to make them more clear to the general public after the first storm of the year.
Saturday Bus Service Begins March 12

Saturday bus service is targeted to begin operation on March 12. The routes are still being finalized, but we expect to run 9 routes, using 11 buses (two of the routes require operating two buses, due to their length). Hours of operation will be 7:15 AM to 6:15 PM (initial and final pull-out times from the Downtown terminal). Buses will run at 60 minute intervals. This is consistent with the information provided to Council during the 2011 budget process. It generally takes at least three months to start expanded service. The fixed-route bus and paratransit van contractors need to hire and train additional drivers and other staff to support the added work day. Also, the Transit Services Division will hire and train a part-time temporary employee for radio dispatch and Downtown terminal supervision duties, and will print and distribute revised bus schedules. The part-time temporary position was included in the 2011 cost for Limited Saturday service.
