We have been informed of the following scam in local neighborhoods.
For more information, you can read the details and some tips at the FTC website.
I have been getting several reports of a scam going on in the skyway area but could move through Gold Hill. We have reports of several young people, college aged boys and girls, selling magazine subscriptions in this area. The scam varies from the "student" needing intern money for overseas schooling to selling magazines to injured troops overseas.
We have limited information at this time to follow-up on other than a possible connection with a tan colored van with Arizona License plates.
If you have been victimized by this scam and given a check to these people please cancel your check and call your bank to close your account. They won’t be interested in the $25.00 check for a magazine subscription. What they are interested in is the routing number on your check that they will use to print their own checks with to empty your accounts.
Please share this information with your neighbors and groups
Thanks,
Officer Bob Harris
Some of you may have received a postcard from James Mayerl, Senior Planner (719) 385-5360, yesterday about a new development on Centennial. Homeowners living within 500 feet of the proposed development should have received notices. In addition, a City notice of planning review was posted on Thursday. Well, members of the Pinon Valley Neighborhood Association have received them as well and we noticed a city review sign on the property in question.
Colorado Springs City Planning and Community Development has scheduled a neighborhood meeting to discuss a request from Mackenzie House for an assisted living facility for the elderly at 5315 through 5355 Centennial Boulevard. This property is immediately south of the Mormon Church. Representatives from Mackenzie House and the City Planning department will attend the meeting.

What to Know for Snow!
Did you know that property owners should clear the snow from adjacent sidewalks, including pedestrian ramps and sidewalks running along the back or side of property lines or fences, within 24 hours after a snow storm has ended? Cleared sidewalks provide a safe way for non-drivers in our community, such as children, the disabled and senior citizens, to get around. This year City staff are taking a proactive inspection approach and will monitor areas within three blocks of the City's 135 schools and five hospitals. Property owners should also be aware they may be held liable for claims resulting from an un-cleared sidewalk. If an HOA is responsible for snow removal in your neighborhood, be sure to have their contact information on-hand. The Park Maintenance Division's Special Improvement Maintenance District (SIMD) is responsible for clearing some areas (in parts of Briargate, Norwood, Stetson Hills, Woodstone and Old Colorado City), visit www.SpringsGov.com/snow for maps to see what areas residents or HOAs may still be responsible for. To contact the City regarding sidewalk snow removal inspections, call 385-5977 or via e-mal at CityEngineering@SpringsGov.com.

For those interested, there are no time limits on trick-or-treating this year. The city has decided to leave it up to residents, so turn on your lights when you are ready to hand out candy and turn them off when you run out.
Not only can ghosts and ghouls dance under the same dark sky as the Druids did, but there is also no attempt in this city to hobble Halloweeners with limited trick-or-treating hours. Apparently, we’re open to letting the little monsters learn what it means to ring a doorbell when the porch light is out.
