Saturday Bus Service Begins March 12

Saturday bus service is targeted to begin operation on March 12. The routes are still being finalized, but we expect to run 9 routes, using 11 buses (two of the routes require operating two buses, due to their length). Hours of operation will be 7:15 AM to 6:15 PM (initial and final pull-out times from the Downtown terminal). Buses will run at 60 minute intervals. This is consistent with the information provided to Council during the 2011 budget process. It generally takes at least three months to start expanded service. The fixed-route bus and paratransit van contractors need to hire and train additional drivers and other staff to support the added work day. Also, the Transit Services Division will hire and train a part-time temporary employee for radio dispatch and Downtown terminal supervision duties, and will print and distribute revised bus schedules. The part-time temporary position was included in the 2011 cost for Limited Saturday service.
