In the past the Streets Division distributed a Snow Response Notification only to the media and internal personnel. Starting with the January 10th winter storm anyone watching TV was notified.

At approximately 3:00 A.M. the City sent to all TV stations a "NEWS FLASH."

The TV stations were notified that "City snow crews are on partial callout status, working on primary routes only." This information was then "scrolled" across the bottom of the TV screen like a banner. This information allowed our citizens to make an informed choice on whether to delay their departure or allow more time to get to work. Once all primary routes were passable, the banner was changed to let the public know that Streets Division Crews has move to secondary routes.

Streets has also revised its maps for snow response to make them more clear to the general public after the first storm of the year.
